What is BetterType AI Keyboard?

BetterType AI Keyboard is an AI-powered keyboard for iOS that helps you write better across all your apps. It offers grammar correction, tone adjustment in 22+ styles, AI-powered writing assistance, and translation to 44+ languages - all directly from your keyboard.

How do I install the BetterType keyboard?

After downloading the app:

Open the BetterType app and complete the onboarding
Go to iOS Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards
Tap "Add New Keyboard"
Select "BetterType" from the list
Enable "Allow Full Access" for best functionality
Tap the globe icon 🌐 in any app to switch to BetterType

Why does the keyboard need "Full Access"?

Full Access allows BetterType to send your text to AI models for processing (grammar fixes, tone changes, translations, etc.). Without it, the keyboard cannot provide AI-powered features. Your privacy is protected - see our Privacy section below for details.

Which apps work with BetterType?

BetterType works with virtually any iOS app that accepts text input, including Instagram, WhatsApp, Telegram, Gmail, Slack, Discord, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, iMessage, Reddit, TikTok, Snapchat, Tinder, Bumble, Hinge, Notes, and many more.

Can I control the length of responses?

Yes! Most features offer content size options:

Default: Balanced length

Structured: Organized with formatting (for certain tones)

Which languages does BetterType support for translation?

Is there a free trial?

Yes! New users get a 3-day free trial to experience all Pro features before committing to a subscription.

What are the payment options?

BetterType offers both monthly and yearly subscription billing. Yearly subscriptions typically offer better value with significant savings compared to monthly billing.

How do I cancel my subscription?

To cancel:

Open iOS Settings
Tap your Apple ID at the top
Go to Subscriptions
Select BetterType
Tap "Cancel Subscription"

Your access continues until the end of your current billing period.

Privacy & Security

Is my data private and secure?

Yes. BetterType offers two privacy modes:

                        Privacy Mode: Maximum privacy with no usage data collection

                        Help Improve Mode: Anonymous usage data to improve the product (no sensitive content stored)

Your typed text is sent to AI providers (like Google Gemini) for processing but is never stored by BetterType. API keys and sensitive data are stored securely in iOS Keychain.

What data does BetterType collect?

BetterType collects:

Never Collected: Your actual keyboard input/text content
Optionally Collected (if you enable "Help Improve"): Anonymous feature usage analytics, app integration data, subscription status
Always Secure: Payment information (handled by Apple), subscription details

Which AI models does BetterType use?

BetterType uses state-of-the-art AI models from multiple providers:

Google Gemini (primary provider)
Support for OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, and Grok models
Different models are optimized for different tasks (grammar uses lightweight models, creative tasks use more capable models)

Does BetterType work offline?

No, BetterType requires an internet connection to access AI models for text processing. However, subscription validation has offline fallback to ensure the keyboard works even with temporary connection issues.

How do I switch between BetterType and my default keyboard?

Tap the globe icon 🌐 on your keyboard to cycle through all installed keyboards, including BetterType and your system keyboard.

The keyboard isn't showing up. What should I do?

Check these common issues:

Ensure you've added BetterType in Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards
Verify "Allow Full Access" is enabled
Restart the app you're typing in

Why can't I use Ask AI?

Ask AI is a premium feature available only to Pro subscribers. Upgrade your subscription in the app to unlock this feature.

The keyboard feels slow. How can I fix this?

AI processing takes a few seconds. If it's unusually slow:

Check your internet connection
Ensure you're on the latest version of BetterType
Try restarting the app
Contact support if the issue persists

Can I use BetterType as my default keyboard?

Yes! iOS allows you to set BetterType as your primary keyboard, though you can always switch back using the globe icon. However, for security-sensitive fields (like passwords), iOS automatically switches to the system keyboard.
